Esports Duo Finish 8th in Fortnite Championships

RICHMOND, Ind. – Connor Nease and Malachi Lohmoeller placed eighth in the Fortnite Zero-Build Finals of the NACE Starleague Split #2 Collegiate Championships on Saturday for the IU East Esports team.

The result was the best the Red Wolves have done in program history. The tournament started with 137 teams three weeks ago.

"These guys put a lot of work in," head coach Andrew Britt said. "I know they were heartbroken to miss the Split #1 finals by 2 points last month, so I'm so proud to see them not only qualify for finals, but to earn an auto-qualify (top scoring team during one of the comp days) and take us further than we have ever made it in our (now) 4 trips to finals for Fortnite.

"This is a Sophomore and a Freshman, so I cannot wait to see how far they take us in the coming seasons. We may have Esports' first conference champions in Lohmoller and Nease, but only time will tell."
