RICHMOND, Ind. - The Indiana University East men's basketball team battled WVU Tech on Lingle Court, but the Red Wolves ended up on the wrong side of a 93-89 decision on Monday, Jan. 8.
IU East is now 6-9 overall and 2-3 in the River States Conference, while WVU Tech has won eight straight as the Golden Bears are 12-3 and 5-1.
Colt Meyer led the Red Wolves with 32 points and six assists, while Jake Johnson finished with 21 points and Antuane Allen added 14 points.
Ibra Athie grabbed a game-high 16 rebounds as he scored seven points.
The Red Wolves started the night with an early 5-2 advantage, but WVU Tech responded by building a 14-7 lead at 15:35 of the opening half.
WVU Tech widened its margin to 34-23 at 6:21 before the Red Wolves worked their way back to hold a 48-46 lead at the intermission.
In the second half, both teams had leads before the contest was tied at 85-85 when Johnson drilled a 3-pointer with 2:20 remaining.
The Golden Bears took the lead for good at 87-85 at the 1:35 mark and they were able to hang on for the victory.
Next up for IU East is a trip to Alice Lloyd College on Saturday, Jan. 13. The RSC affair gets underway at 3 p.m.
