Men's Basketball: IU East 84, Midway 67
MIDWAY, Ky. - A big second half was the difference for the Indiana University East men's basketball team as the Red Wolves defeated Midway University 84-67 in the finale of the regular season on Saturday, Feb 24.
With their fourth straight victory, the Red Wolves are 11-17 overall and 7-11 in the River States Conference. Midway falls to 8-16, 6-12.
IU East has also qualified for the RSC championships that start on Monday, Feb. 26. The pairings will be announced later on Saturday.
Colt Meyer led the Red Wolves with 19 points in the affair at Marshall Gymnasium, while Jake Johnson finished with 18 points.
Ibra Athie recorded his 13th double-double of the season with 16 points and 15 rebounds.
Midway got off to a fast start as the Eagles built a 31-14 advantage by the 7:42 mark of the opening period.
The Red Wolves showed some signs of gaining momentum as they outscored Midway 17-8 from that point to close the gap by halftime to 39-31.
In the second half, IU East scored 53 points to Midway's 28 as the Red Wolves took control.
Meyer drilled a 3-pointer that put IU East on top for good at 59-56 with 9:42 remaining as the Red Wolves pulled away.
