Red Wolves Force OT, But Later Fall to Midway

RICHMOND, Ind. – Devon Woods added a late layup to force OT against Midway, but the Eagles were able to hold on in the extra frame to defeat the Red Wolves 106-101 Saturday afternoon.

The loss drops IU East to 7-15 on the season and 3-9 in RSC play. The Eagles improved to 7-11 and 5-7 respectively.

After heading into the halftime break, the Red Wolves saw their biggest deficit in the second down 86-72 with 7:04 remaining in the game.

IU East chipped away at the deficit and was able to force the extra frame. The Red Wolves had a chance to win it in regulation. They forced an Eagles turnover with four seconds remaining. Woods grabbed the inbounds pass but his running three-point attempt was off the mark.

Midway scored first in OT but Woods converted on a jump shot 20 seconds later. Colt Meyer added a pair of free throws with one minute to go to tie the game.

But those were the last points the Red Wolves would score as the Eagles were able to close the door.

Meyer led the team with 26 points, including 6-of-9 from beyond the arc. Ibra Athie scored 24 points to go along with nine rebounds. Devon Woods (17), Jake Johnson (14), and Antuane Allen (12) were all in double figures.

The Red Wolves fell despite shooting 55 percent from the floor. The Eagles were red hot, hitting 46 of their 75 shot attempts for a percentage of 61.3.

The Red Wolves will travel to IU Kokomo on Tuesday.
