Men's Golf: RSC Fall Preview Day 2 Recap
FLORENCE, Ind. – Jake Miller earned medalist honors for the second time in five days for the Indiana University East men's golf team during the River States Conference Fall Preview on Tuesday, Sept. 27.
The leader after the first round on Monday, Miller finished with a 70-75-145 for the two-day competition at the Belterra Resort.
"It felt good to win finally at Belterra," said Miller, who won the IU East Fall Invitational last week at the Delaware Country Club in Muncie.
Miller finished fourth in the RSC Fall Preview a year ago and followed that by grabbing second in the RSC Championships last spring.
"The course played very hard this week with the wind gusting 20-30 MPH during the tournament," Miller said. "This tournament gave me a good idea of what it takes to win the conference as a team and individual."
As a team, IU East was second of 11 squads ending the event with a 314-315-629. Midway University won the title with a 311-300-611, while Oakland City University was third at 316-319-635.
"We showed improvement and a lot of guts fighting through the tough conditions," IU East coach Jeff Williams said. "It'll take a lot of hard work, but I feel like this group has what it takes to win conference this spring."
This is the third year in a row that the Red Wolves have finished second in the RSC Fall Preview after capturing the title in 2019.
The other scores for the Red Wolves were Austin Shelley (78-78-156, 9th), Sam Firebaugh (81-78-159, 13th), Emiliano Tercero (82-81-163, 18th), Conrad Emmons (86-81-167, 30th), Sam Roberts (81-88-169, 37th).
IU East returns to the course at the NAIA National Shootout in Tennessee on Oct. 10-11.
"We have probably our biggest event of the fall in two weeks, so we'll start getting prepared for that," Miller said.
The event is at the Tournament Players Club Southwind in Memphis.
