Men's Golf: Midway University Eagle Invitational Day 1 Recap
LEXINGTON, Ky. - Jake Miller led the Indiana University East men's golf team during the first day of the Midway University Eagle Invitational on April 3.
Miller is tied for second on the leaderboard with St. Thomas University's Tomas Mendia as both were even in the opening round with a 72 on the Big Blue Course at the University Club of Kentucky.
"Jake started four over after four holes and got it back to even," IU East coach Jeff Williams said. "Austin Shelley struggled mightily with his iron play yet rallied on the last seven holes in 2-under par to break 80."
Blake LeFavour of Indiana Wesleyan University shot a 70 as he led the Wildcats to the top spot as a team with a 293. The Red Wolves are fifth out of 10 teams with a 299.
Emiliano Tercero is tied for ninth for IU East after carding a 74, while the Red Wolves had four other players in the 70s.
"Our focus all spring has been to improve our ability to handle adversity," Williams said. "It's these types of things that show it's paying off. I couldn't be prouder of them."
Round out the scores for IU East were Sam Firebaugh 75 (T17th), Alex Beatty 78 (T33rd), Austin Shelley 79 (T35th), Bailey Moistner 79 (T35th) and Sam Roberts 84 (T50th).
The final round on Tuesday is scheduled to begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.
