Men's Golf: RSC Championships Day 1 Recap
FLORENCE, Ind. - The Indiana University East men's golf team is in second place after the opening day of the River States Conference Championships on Sunday, April 16.
IU East posted a team score of 313 on the Belterra Resort Course as the Red Wolves trail Midway University's squad that has 308.
"Toughest weather conditions we've ever dealt with here," IU East coach Jeff Williams said. "We did a good job of keeping ourselves in the tournament, while not playing our best golf."
IU East's Jake Miller is tied at the top of the individual leaderboard with Midway's Hayes Mason with a 74. Austin Shelley is next in line for the Red Wolves in a tie for third with a 75.
"Austin Shelley was huge for us today," Williams said. "He and Jake eagled No. 18 to hopefully generate a little momentum going into tomorrow."
Sam Firebaugh and Emiliano Tercero both carded an 82 to put them in a tie for 19th. Alex Beatty's 90 has him in 43rd in the three-day event that features 11 teams.
