Men's Golf: Earlham Spring Invitational Day 1 Recap

RICHMOND, Ind. - The Indiana University East men's golf team is tied with the host squad for first place after the opening round of the Earlham College Spring Invitational on Sunday, April 23.

Both teams posted a score of 305 at the Elks Country Club.

"Today was an excellent performance in, once again, tough conditions," IU East coach Jeff Williams said of the event that was delayed at the start.

Sam Firebaugh carded a 74 to pace the Reds Wolves as he is tied for third on the individual leaderboard.

"Sam played very well today," Williams said. "The 74 put up was the worst he could have scored today."

Austin Shelley is tied for fifth with a 75, while Jake Miller and Emiliano Tercero are both ninth at 78.

"Austin bounced back in a big way as well, but it's just one day," Williams said. "Everyone starts even par again tomorrow."

Bailey Moistner is tied for 30th with an 83.

The Red Wolves also had a second team in the field, which is tied for sixth out of nine squads with Hanover College with a 327.

Sam Roberts and Mason Hahn are tied for 20th with an 81. In a tie for 26th is Alex Beatty at 82.

The other scores for the Red Wolves were Kyle Maki (T30th, 83), Mark Byerly (32nd, 84) and Zachary Jewell (T43rd, 90)

IU East's tee times for Monday's final round are Jewell (10 a.m.), Byerly (11:03 a.m.), Maki (11:12 a.m), Beatty (11:21 a.m.), Hahn (11:30 a.m.), Roberts (11:39 a.m.), Moistner (11:48 a.m.), Tercero (11:57 a.m.), Miller (12:06 p.m.), Shelley (12:15 p.m.) and Firebaugh (12:24 p.m.).
