Men's Golf: IU East wins RSC Fall Preview
DANIELS, W.Va. - It took all five guys in a playoff to bring home the River States Conference Fall Preview trophy.
The Indiana University East men's golf team and the University of Rio Grande ended 36 holes with an identical score of 608.
Playing on the first hole at The Resort at Glade Springs as a group, IU East recorded a par as the RedStorm finished one stroke behind. The victory was IU East's third title in the RSC Fall Preview as the Red Wolves also won in 2017 and 2019.
"I'm really proud of how we played and fought for two days," said Jake Miller, who led the Red Wolves with a 75-74-149 to finish third on the leaderboard.
"None of us had our best stuff, but it's a cool tournament to win," Miller continued. "But the real one we want is in the spring."
WVU Tech (610) was third followed IU Kokomo (615), Midway (620), Brescia (636), Point Park (640), Oakland City (644), Shawnee State (649), St. Mary-of-the-Woods (658), Alice Lloyd (664) and Ohio Christian (693).
After Miller, Will Barnes (74-76-150) was next individually for the Red Wolves as he tied for fourth out of 66 competitors.
Sam Firebaugh 76-78-154 tied for 14th, while Austin Shelley 77-78-155 was 18th. Emiliano Tercero was tied for 30th (79-82-161) for IU East. Playing as an individual and not part of the playoff, Riley Bratton also tied for 30th with a 78-83-161.
There was also a playoff for the medalist as Hayden Williamson of IU Kokomo (72-75_147) beat Midway's Jack Bedell (75-72-147) on No. 10.
IU East is back in action next week in Michigan at the LTU Blue Devil Classic hosted by Lawrence Tech at the Nightmare/The Dream Golf Course in West Branch on Oct. 9-10.
