Red Wolf Conversation - Joao Vitor de Lima

A chat with Joao Vitor de Lima, a member of the Indiana University East men's soccer team from Brazil.

Q: How are your parents, Sonia and Altair?

A: My parents are fine. They ended up being among the first 2,000 cases of COVID-19 in Brazil. However, we quickly learned that this virus is not the same for all. They were treated for this virus with no difficulty, which did not express itself harshly. In time, they were heathy again.

Q: Do you have a message that you would like to send to your teammates?

A: Just study hard and be careful going out. I mean we are not supposed to, but we need to keep ourselves in shape. Having good hygiene will make all the difference.

Q: What are you looking forward to as we hope to return to normal for the next academic year?

A: I am really looking forward for practices and the season. It will be my junior year, so I am confident that this season will be a lot better for me personally than the other seasons.

Q: Who is the first person/place you are going to visit when you are back on campus?

A: The first place I will go will be to The Den. I really want some caramel macchiato.

Q: Is there a unique quarantine story you could share?

A: First, I had to leave the United States in a hurry because Brazil was about to close its borders, so that was pretty exciting. I felt like I was in a movie about the end of the world. Everybody was desperate to get on the plane because if the borders closed during our flight we would have had to land somewhere else. Second, my parents got the COVID-19 and were basically going through a flu, which I thought would have been worse. However, the doctor said that this virus can show itself in various degrees of seriousness.
