Men's Soccer: IU East 2, SMWC 1

ST. MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. - A successful penalty kick by Vince Brown proved to be the difference for the Indiana University East men's soccer team as the Red Wolves won 2-1 over St. Mary-of-the-Woods College on Thursday, Sept. 28.

With the scored tied, Brown's goal came at the 72:50 mark of the River States Conference affair.

The Red Wolves are now 3-7 overall and 1-1 in the league, while the Pomeroys are 0-7-1, 0-2-0.

After a scoreless first period, the Pomeroys scored early in the second frame to grab the lead.

"Proud of the grind from the guys today," IU East coach Steve Moore said. "Especially after our poor result Saturday and then after going down early in the second half today."

Tristan Thomas tied the contest with an unassisted goal with 62:42 on the clock to set up Brown's game-winner.

"Both our keepers played fantastic today to keep us in it," Moore said. "I was excited for Tristan and Vince to get on the board for us."

Alex Visscher had seven saves in goal for the Red Wolves during the first half. In the second, Peter Lamprou stopped four shots including a penalty kick.

IU East is back in action against RSC foe Point Park University on Saturday, Sept. 30. The match at Eaton (Ohio) High School starts at 4:30 p.m.
