Tennis one of 'many, many skills' for Red Wolves signee
Look for Anthony Gulley to bring some winning moves to the Indiana University East tennis program.
Gulley, a 2006 New Castle Chrysler High School graduate, has signed a letter of intent to play tennis for IU East during the 2010-11 season.
Red Wolves coach Mike Sherer announced the signing May 27.
"Anthony brings more depth to the team as well as a definite enthusiasm and happiness to be a part of IU East," Sherer said.
Gulley played three seasons of varsity tennis at New Castle, moving up from No. 2 doubles to No. 3 singles to No. 1 doubles.
He was the Trojans' most improved player and most valuable player as a junior.
"I play the net really well, and when I'm having a good day, my serve is pretty good," Gulley said.
Gulley enhances his tennis footwork with dance. He choreographs dance routines and offers dance lessons.
He choreographed the Indiana State School Music Association State Show Choir Championships routine for the New Castle Dynamiques women's show choir. The Dynamiques finished second in the state in their division.
"Anthony is a uniquely talented individual with a great personality and many, many skills," Sherer said. "I'm glad to have him for his tennis skills, especially his doubles experience."
Gulley most recently attended Ball State University.
Anthony is the son of Alberetta Davis. He plans to major in elementary education.
"I came to IU East because I knew I could get a regular IU degree," Gulley said. "They had tennis, and I like tennis.
"I think I would be a good teammate to have around. I'm really friendly and outgoing with a positive attitude."
Gulley joins Justin Judd (West Milton, Ohio), Josh Morris (Hagerstown, Ind.) and Nick Grinstead (Greenfield, Ind.) in IU East's 2010 men's tennis recruiting class.
IU East is an NAIA program. The Red Wolves are scheduled to play their first official tennis matches during the 2010-11 school year.
