Red Wolves Fall to Oakland City in RSC Opener
OAKLAND CITY, Ind. – After rain altered original schedules, the Red Wolves were able to play Oakland City on Sunday.
Unfortunately for the IU East tennis teams, the Mighty Oaks prevailed 7-0 on the men's side and 4-3 on the women's.
Francisco Faundez and Sebastian Torrealba came close of grabbing a doubles match win. They forced a tiebreak point but the Mighty Oaks won No. 1 Doubles 7-6 after taking No. 2 and No. 3 Doubles, 6-2, 6-1 respectively.
On the women's side, the Red Wolves were able to take a 1-0 lead after winning the doubles point. Linda Marino and Eva Caballero won No. 1 Doubles 7-5. Amonette Theron and Laura Billing also won 7-5 at No. 2 Doubles to secure the 1-0 lead heading into singles.
Marino won her No. 1 Singles match 6-3, 6-3 and Caballero won her No. 2 Singles match 6-1, 6-0 but the Red Wolves couldn't grab the final point to secure the win. Theron went the distance in her No. 3 Singles match. She grabbed an early 6-0 lead but fell in the last two sets 6-4, 7-6. Matches 4-6 were decided in straight sets for the Mighty Oaks.
The Red Wolves will host Midway on April 1 at 1 p.m.
