Tennis: IU East Sweeps Shawnee State
PORTSMOUTH, Ohio - Indiana University East swept a pair of River States Conference tennis matches from Shawnee State University on Friday, March 20.
The Red Wolves won the men's contest 7-0 as the women posted a 5-2 victory over the Bears on the Daehler Tennis Courts.
IU East's men are 5-9 overall and 1-0 in the conference, while the women are 5-8, 1-0.
Shawnee State's men are 0-10 and 0-1 and the women are 0-9, 0-1.
The teams of Andrea Klaric/Sachin Vanaraja (No. 1) and Juan Diego Balao/Connor Burk (No. 2) each won in doubles as the Red Wolves claimed the point with Bryce Wennen and Jace Wilkerson (No. 3) picking up a forfeit. In singles, Sachin Vanaraja (No. 1), Andrea Klaric (No. 2), Juan Diego Balao (No. 3), Bryce Wennen (No. 4), Clay Conner (No. 5) were each victorious with Connor Burk (No. 6) winning by forfeit.
On the women's side in doubles, the Red Wolves took the point with the teams of Brooke Schafstall/Gracie Helms (No. 1) and Lexi Wennen/Lauren Miller (No. 2) both winning. IU East's winners in singles were Gracie Helms (No. 1), Chantelle Mapondera (No. 2), Brooke Schafstall (No. 4) Lexi Wennen (No. 5).
The Red Wolves are at Alma College for a men's match on Saturday, March 21. Both teams will be in action with league affairs at Midway University on Friday, March 27.
