Indoor Track: Red Wolves Ready for NAIA National Championships
RICHMOND, Ind. - It's official.
The Indiana University East track and field program will be represented by 10 athletes at the NAIA National Indoor Championships on March 5-7 in Gainesville, Fla.
The list of competitors for the event at the Alachua County Sports & Events Center at Celebration Pointe was announced by the NAIA on Wednesday, Feb. 25.
All-American Cameron Nocton is the only Red Wolf who qualified with a NAIA "A" Standard as all of the others reached the "B" standard.
With the top time in the NAIA, Nocton's best effort this season came as he claimed his fourth straight title in the men's 3,000-meter race walk at the River States Indoor Championships with a time of 12:05.36 on Feb. 20.
Kayci Hill will be competing as an individual for IU East along with running the anchor leg of women's distance medley relay.
Hill's time in the 1,000 meters of 2:58.15 came in the Olivet Nazarene University Indoor Invite back in January.
The women's DMR squad of Emily Fleming, Mackenzie Rohde, Mylee Shatto and Hill posted a time of 12:23.85 at the Grand Valley State University Big Meet-Saturday on Feb 14. Hunter Gardner is joining the group as an alternate.
Sarah Perry is preparing for the women's 3,000-meter race walk with her time of 17:49.62 from the ONU Invite.
Joining Nocton in the men's race walk is Vance Dougherty (15:24.11) and Austin Wenta (15:49.38) as both made the standard at the RSC Indoor Championships.
Emilee Earl is set to take part in the women's pole vault. Earl qualified by clearing 3.58 meters (11'9") at the GVSU Big Meet-Friday on Feb. 13.
