Indoor Track: IU East at NAIA National Championships Day 2 Recap
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Cameron Nocton added to his NAIA All-American resume as the Indiana University East track and field teams wrapped up the National Indoor Championships on Friday, March 6.
Nocton finished second for the Red Wolves in the Men's 3,000-Meter Race Walk Final with a school record time of 11:53.51. The top eight in each event earn the All-American designation. Friday's top seven finishers in the race walk all eclipsed the facility standard in the Alachua County Sports & Events Center at Celebration Pointe. Owen Nolte of Benedictine College from Kansas defended his title from a year ago with an 11:51.71.
It was the sixth time that Nocton has earned an All-American honor in his IU East career. He has two in the indoor race walk with three more outdoors heading into his final season. Last fall, he was an All-American as the Red Wolves won the NAIA Marathon national title for the second straight year. Nocton has matched former IU East track star Seth Reynolds, who was also a six-time track All-American in the hurdles and relays.
Kayci Hill was in two events for the Red Wolves on Friday as she set a new school record in the prelims of the women's mile with a 5:07.33 to finish 13th to begin her day. Hill added another record as she was 19th in the 1,000-Meter Run Prelims with a 2:59.60 in the afternoon. Emily Fleming also competed in the mile with a time of 5:13.59 to finish 17th.
Sarah Perry established a freshman record as she was 13th in the finals of the Women's 3,000-Meter Race Walk with a time of 17:56.12. Makenzee Kahn took part in the race walk, but didn't finish.
IU East will begin the outdoor season in South Carolina at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational in Myrtle Beach on March 19-21.
