Men's Volleyball: IU East 3, Rio Grande 1

RICHMOND, Ind. - The Indiana University East men's volleyball team won its second straight match this week with a 25-21, 17-25, 25-16, 25-22 victory over the University of Rio Grande on Saturday, Feb. 28.

With the River States Conference win on Lingle Court, IU East is now 5-2 overall and 3-1 in the league. The Red Wolves also remain unbeaten at home in four contests. Rio Grande falls to 8-4 and 1-2.

Arthur Barreto topped the Red Wolves with 13 kills, while Wyatt King finished with 12 kills. Vinicius Lopes added seven kills as Gideon Nelson had six kills.

Brayden Richardson paced the IU East offense with 31 assists with Olwin Corrales contributing seven assists. Francis Rivera Agosto had 15 digs and Jael De La Cruz added three blocks.

After dropping the second set, the Red Wolves responded to pick up the third to set up what turned out to be the finale.

Rio Grande led 4-0 in the fourth set before the Red Wolves fought back to tie it at 4-4. Moments later IU East took a 6-5 lead. From that point, the Red Wolves were able to keep their distance the rest of the way to seal the win.

The Red Wolves return to action at home against Georgetown College on Friday, March 6. The RSC contest gets underway at 6 p.m.
