WE'RE IN! Women's Basketball headed to nationals

RICHMOND, Ind. - We're in!

The Indiana University East women's basketball team earned a berth in the 2022 NAIA Women's Basketball National Championship.

IU East was one of 64 teams selected for the national tournament in the pairings announced March 4.

IU East (25-7) will travel to Park City, Kan., to face Dordt University (24-8) in an Opening Round matchup at 3 p.m. (IU East time) on March 11. IU East is the No. 12 seed in the "Cramer Quadrant," one of the tournament's four 16-team quadrants. Dordt is the No. 5 seed in the Cramer Quadrant.

The IU East-Dordt winner will face No. 4 seed Sterling College (31-2) or No. 13 seed Eastern Oregon University (22-10) at 4 p.m. (IU East time) on March 12 for the right to be one of 16 teams to advance to the NAIA National Championship Final Site.

IU East received one of the 26 at-large bids to the 2022 event.

TOURNAMENT FORMAT

The national tournament has a new look since IU East made three consecutive appearances in the 32-team NAIA Division II Women's Basketball National Championship in Sioux City, Iowa, from 2016 to 2018.

* NAIA basketball now has one division

* 64 teams qualify for the national tournament

* Those 64 teams will compete at 16 Opening Round sites on March 11-12. Four teams will compete at each Opening Round site, with the winners of two games held at each site March 11 squaring off on March 12 to determine the Opening Round site winners.

* The 16 winners at the Opening Round sites will advance to NAIA National Championship Final Site in Sioux City, Iowa, for the last four rounds of the national tournament. Games at the Final Site will be held March 17-22 at Tyson Events Center.
