Women's Basketball: No. 8 Rio Grande 97, IU East 73

RICHMOND, Ind. – The IU East women’s basketball team headed to the locker room at halftime tied with No. 8 Rio Grande.

In the third quarter, the RedStorm showed why they had a 25-1 record. Rio Grande scored 35 points in the third to eventually take control over the Red Wolves in the 97-73 win.

The Red Wolves dropped to 11-15 overall and 7-8 in RSC play. Maggie Anderson scored a career-high 26 points on 10-of-15 shooting. Trinity Archey and Peyton Wells were next with nine points apiece.

IU East started off the contest on a 10-4 run in the first five minutes. Anderson hit a triple with 5:06 remaining in the first.

The Red Wolves kept their lead all the way through the first quarter. Gracie Kramer finished off the first with some fireworks as her near-half court shot went in as the time expired to give IUE a 19-11 lead.

The Red Wolves held the lead all the way until 3:11 to play in the half. Both teams traded points the rest of the way in the second quarter ending the first 20 minutes tied.

Rio Grande cranked up the full-court pressure in the second half. They scored the first six points of the half. Wells made a layup with 7:27 to play in third for the first points of the second half for the Red Wolves.

But the RedStorm kept the pressure up and Alyssa Baker couldn’t miss. Baker made a school-record 11 3-pointers for the RedStorm, en route to her 33 points.

The Red Wolves will finish the regular season at WVU Tech on Saturday with the playoffs on the line. The winner of that game will earn the final spot in the RSC Tournament.
