Women's Golf: RSC Fall Preview Day 1 Recap
FLORENCE, Ind. - The Indiana University East women's golf team finished the opening round of the River States Conference Fall Preview in second place on Monday, Oct. 3.
Tuesday's final round in the 36-hole event at the Belterra Resort begins at 8 a.m.
Midway University leads the field of eight squads with a team score of 336. IU East had a 342, while IU Kokomo was next at 349.
"Great weather and speedy greens today," IU East coach Billy Mullin said. "Annie Gillock played a strong round and she was able to gain shots around the greens."
"The key going into tomorrow is how many shots we can gain around the greens and keeping the ball in play," Mullin added. "We are going to have to adapt, if we are going to have a chance tomorrow."
Individually, Quirine ter Meulen of the University of Rio Grande tops the list with a 37-41-78.
In a four-way tie for second place, Gillock leads the Red Wolves with a 42-38-80.
"I felt really good going into today coming off of my round last weekend and a few good practices throughout the week," Gillock said. "It's exciting being back considering the last time we were here we won conference for the first time."
"I got off to a slow start, but I was finally able to get it going once I got a few pars under my belt," Gillock continued. "The course played a little long and was very soft with some crazy pin placements, but I think as a team we all handled it and grinded until the very end. We're only six shots back, so I'm more than confident we can make up the difference tomorrow."
The other scores for IU East were Brooklynn Cromwell (43-42-85, 9th), Liv Sanders (43-42-85, 9th), Katie Craig (45-47-92, 22nd), Josalyn Lewis (45-49-94, 28th) and Jalyn Bruns (47-49-96, 29th).
