Women's Golf: IU East at Heritage Hill Collegiate Day 2 Recap

SHEPHERDSVILLE, Ky. - The Indiana University East women's golf team grabbed second place in the Heritage Hill Collegiate on Sunday, March 26.

IU East had a score of 348-336-332-1016 in the 54-hole tournament on the Heritage Hill Golf Club course.

Spalding University won the seven-team affair with a 335-340-323-998. Host Lawrence Tech University was third with a 360-337-347-1044.

"Two long days of golf and unfortunately we ran out of gas in our last nine holes to come up short, but I'm very encouraged from this experience," IU East coach Billy Mullin said. "Our two freshman became collegiate golfers this weekend."

Brooklynn Cromwell was second as an individual to make the all-tournament squad with a 84-82-83-249. Jordan Harris of Spalding was the medalist with a 79-78-74-231.

"Although I didn't play the best golf today and yesterday, it was very consistent golf," Cromwell said. "My chipping was off, but I managed to get a few up and downs that helped. It was a bit chilly when the round started, but it turned out to be a great weather compared to yesterday's conditions."

"We played a lot better in the final round as a team, but we have some work to do," Cromwell continued. "I would like to say good job to former player Jo Wisecup for coming and helping Billy coach this weekend. She doesn't know how much we appreciate it."

Jalyn Bruns (seventh, 86-84-84-254), Annie Gillock (ninth, 93-82-82-257) and Katie Craig (10th, 85-89-84-258) all finished in the top 10 on the leaderboard.

"Brooklynn is on the verge of better golf," Mullin said. "Katie was very consistent. Annie bounced back from her first round and as a team we improved our scores from one round to the next. I have high hopes for this team."

Josalyn Lewis (17th, 97-88-83-268) had the best score of her career in her first season with IU East.

"It was a very long weekend, but I felt like we all stuck in there very well and improved every round," Lewis said. "The weather wasn't playing in our favor. It was very windy and wet out there, but we fought through it."

"Putts weren't falling for me as much as I'd like them too," Lewis added. "I had to rely pretty heavily on hitting fairways and greens, but I just redid my swing over winter, so it was good to see it all start coming together. Overall, the team was great and I can't wait to see what the rest of spring has to bring."

Next up for the Red Wolves is the Midway University Tournament on April 3-4.
