Women's Golf: IU East at Trine Kick-Off Recap
ANGOLA, Ind. - The Indiana University East women's golf team opened its fall slate by finishing second in the Trine University Kick-Off Classic on Tuesday, Aug. 29.
IU East A carded a team score of 328 just behind Grace College that won the event with a total of 323. IU East's second squad was eighth out of 15 teams.
Sophia Curry carded a 77 for IU East to finish fourth at the Zollner Golf Course as she earned a spot on the all-tournament team.
"Today was a really fun day of golf," Curry said. "My driver was a little rough off the tee, but otherwise it was a consistent round of golf. I can't wait to keep competing alongside this team."
The other Red Wolves from the first team were Brookylnn Cromwell (7th, 82), Liv Sanders (9th, 83), Katie Craig (16th, 86) and Joslyn Lewis (26th, 89).
Lainey Jackson (13th, 85) led IU East's second group. The other scores were Gracie Williams (37th, 94), Baylee Wissler (37th, 94), Jalyn Burns (45th, 96) and Ashlynne Osborne (74th, 108).
"It was a beautiful day and then it rained the last three holes," IU East coach Billy Mullin ssaid. "I'm pleased with the performance for the very first event, especially from our freshman. Sophia played outstanding, while Brooklynn and Liv hung in there to post a competitive score. I'm happy for Lainey, Baylee and Gracie who played in their first collegiate event."
Grace Dubec of Trine, Grace May of Grace and Morgan Yates of Alma all tied for the individual top spot with a 76.
The Red Wolves are back in action at home on Sept. 1-2. The two-day IU East Invitational is at the Highland Golf course gets underway at noon on Friday.
