Women's Golf: NAIA National Championship Day 2 Recap

YPSILANTI, Mich. - It's not the ending anyone wants, but Indiana University East's Jalyn Bruns closed out her season at the 30th Annual NAIA Women's Golf National Championship on Wednesday, May 14.

"We couldn't have had a better representative at a national championship for IU East than Jalyn Bruns," IU East coach Billy Mullin said. "She uncharacteristically was missing fairways that put her in difficult situations."

"She beat a lot of great players to earn the right to be here and we are proud of her," Mullin continued. "The goal is for her to bring her team with her next year to nationals."

The day started early for Bruns, who had to complete her final four holes of the opening round at the Eagle Crest Golf Club before moving on to the second round.

Bruns finished the first round with an 87 and then posted an 86 in the second for a total of 173, which puts her in a tie for 136th and under the cut line to advance to the third round on Thursday and the finale on Friday.

"Even though my scores were not what I wanted, I still had a good time competing at the NAIA National Championship," Bruns said. "I was able to get some pars going on my last nine, but caught some bad breaks on the last hole. Definitely excited to start preparing for next season."

Qualifiying for the national tournament as the medalist at the River States Conference Championships back in April, Bruns is the fourth Red Wolf to accomplish that feat along with Breanna Nowak (2016, 2018, 2019), Jo Wisecup (2021) and Brooklynn Cromwell (2024).
