Women's Golf: Red Wolves Lead IUK Spring Shootout
KOKOMO, Ind. - Maddie Campbell led the Indiana University East women's golf team as the Red Wolves finished in the top spot after the first round of the IU Kokomo Spring Shootout on Saturday, April 18.
Campbell leads the individual leaderboard with a 73 on the Wildcat Creek Golf Course.
"I had a really good front nine," Campbell said. "Putts were dropping and had a couple birds. My iron game was super consistent today as well. I had some nice saves for par on the back and that really helped my score."
The Red Wolves had a team score of 322 as they are 10 shots ahead of the host Cougars that had 332. Oakland City University (340) is third followed by Heidelberg University (343), IU Southeast (374) and the University of Rio Grande (389).
"It was a cold blustery day in Kokomo," IU East coach Billy Mullin said. "The conditions got worse as the round went on. I give our players a lot of credit for fighting through the day."
"Maddie Campbell played a great round of golf today," Mullin continued. "She was hitting a lot of good shots and she made a good amounts of putts. I'm glad to see her get rewarded for all the work that she puts in."
Jalyn Bruns (82, 8th), Reagan Brewer (83, 9th) and Peityn Gillman (84, T10th) were all in the top 10 individually. The other scores for IU East were Ashlynne Osborne (85, T12th), Sophia Curry (86, T15th), Lainey Jackson (90, T20th) and Lauren Lacey (92, T26th).
