Women's Soccer: IU East 1, Midway 0

MIDWAY, Ky. - The Indiana University East women's soccer team finished the regular season with a 1-0 victory at Midway University on Saturday, Nov. 1.

With the River States Conference win on the Midway Turf Field, IU East is 7-2-1 in the league with an overall mark of 10-5-3. Midway falls to 5-10-1, 3-7-0.

The Red Wolves qualified for the RSC Championships as the fourth seed. IU East and WVU Tech (10-4-3) ended with identical conference records to finish in third place.

The Golden Bears grabbed the tiebreaker after a 1-0 win over the Red Wolves earlier this fall to earn the No. 3 seed. IU East will entertain the University of Rio Grande (8-5-5, 6-3-1) in the RSC Quarterfinals on Wednesday, Nov. 5. The match with the No. 5 RedStorm is at Eaton High School starting at 6 p.m.

On Saturday, Asia Espiritu had the only goal in IU East's victory over Midway in the opening period at 21:23 with Vanessa Temple picking up the assist.

Goalkeeper Elizabeth Sarfo-Benson had three saves for the Red Wolves.

RSC regular season champion Oakland City University (13-2-2, 9-0-1) and IU Kokomo (10-4-4, 7-1-2) are the top two seeds earning a bye in the postseason. WVU Tech will host No. 6 Brescia University (11-6, 6-4) in Wednesday's other quarterfinal contest.

A win by IU East will have the Red Wolves visiting Oakland City for a semifinal match on Saturday, Nov. 8, while IU Kokomo faces the WVU Tech/Brescia winner. The conference championship affair will be at the highest remaining seed on Wednesday, Nov. 12.
