Women's Soccer: IU East 1, Rio Grande 0

EATON, Ohio – Maya Diceanu’s goal in the eighth minute was all the Red Wolves needed as they defeated Rio Grande 1-0 in the RSC Quarterfinal match on Wednesday.

The win gives IU East a shot at redemption against Oakland City on Saturday. The Mighty Oaks defeated the Red Wolves 4-0 earlier in the season and were the ones that defeated IU East in the RSC Championship game last season.

The RedStorm outshot IU East 10-6. Two of those shots came in the last minute and 40 seconds as Rio Grande looked to level the score and take the game into OT. Elizabeth Sarfo-Benson collected the save off a shot from Carmen Morris at 88:19.

With 16 seconds remaining, Aziyah Williams’ shot went high to help the Red Wolves move on.

Diceanu led the team with two shots, both on goal. Sarfo-Benson had five saves in the clean sheet.

The win gives IU East an 11-5-3 record. Rio Grande’s season ends at 8-6-5.

The Red Wolves will travel to Oakland City on Saturday in the RSC semifinals at 5 p.m. (IU East time).
