Outdoor Track: IU East at Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational Day 1 Recap

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Indiana University East's track and field teams had a limited schedule on the first day of the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational on Thursday, March 19.

Vanessa Temple highlighted the opening day for the Red Wolves as she posted a personal best effort in the women's collegiate javelin competition.

Temple had throw of 32.86 meters, which put her in 17th place out of 47 entrants in the event. Temple is now second on IU East's all-time top 10 list behind Vanessa Legg's 35.06 meters from back in 2012. Her top effort prior to Thursday was 31.49 meters last season.

Others taking part in the women's javelin were Alyssa Allen (24.27 meters, 30th), Zoe Ogden (22.77 meters, 32nd) and Molli Lucas (19.30 meters, 36th).

On the men's side, Layne Beard finished 28th of 64 competitors in the men's hammer throw with a distance of 41.04 meters.

IU East's first event on Friday is the women's collegiate long jump at 11 a.m. The preliminaries in the sprints begin at 1:30 p.m.
