IU East Runner Competes in NAIA Marathon

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Indiana University East's Grace Carter made history for the Red Wolves as she competed in the inaugural NAIA Marathon Championships on Sunday, Dec. 3.

The NAIA event was part of the California International Marathon.

Carter posted a personal best time of 3:40:08 for a marathon to finish 25th in the field of NAIA competitors as she improved by over 30 minutes.

"Grace had a great race," IU East cross country coach Cam Tiberg said. "She came away with a massive PR and gained significant experience in the marathon length."

The 26.2-mile course began near Folsom Lake east of Sacramento with the finish line near the California State Capitol Building.

Cumberland University's Mercy Kibiwott won the NAIA title with a time of 2:54:05. Overall, she was 191st of 3,849 women. Carter was 1,174th. There were 9,630 runners in the entire event.
