RICHMOND, Ind. – Caitlin McEldowney tied the school record with eight 3-pointers to score a career-high 30 points to help the Red Wolves take down Miami Middletown 96-35.
The win evened the record for IU East at 7-7.
McEldowney tied Tia King's record. King dropped eight triples in 2018 against Ohio Christian. McEldowney scored her eight triples and shot 10-of-19 from the floor. She attempted 16 3-pointers. Trinity Archey scored 13 points off the bench. Kenzie Hudgen and Kennedy Griffin both added 11 points.
The Red Wolves raced out to a 9-0 lead in the first minute and a half. The Thunder Hawks answered with a 9-3 run to bring the deficit to three points. That was the closest Miami Middletown would get as the Red Wolves finished the quarter with a 29-13 lead.
IU East would take control the rest of the game and did whatever they could to give the ball to McEldowney down the stretch to break the record. She tied the record with 7:42 left in the game. But her last five attempts missed the mark as she settled for a tie.
The Red Wolves will take on WVU Tech on Monday on Lingle Court. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
